History

The first service was held at the Venice Civic Center in 1949 with Rev. Luther Willer of Concordia Lutheran Church, Sarasota, conducting the service.  The preaching station was known as Messiah Lutheran Church of Venice.  In 1954 the members of St. Matthew, Englewood and Messiah, Venice, united and organized Lakeside Lutheran Church.  Members erected a preaching platform for Drive-in Services.  This was the first Drive-in Church in the area.  Sunday School was held under the trees after the Drive-in Services.  In 1955 the first building was erected.  Lakeside now has a coordinated complex of buildings, the latest being the Preschool building dedicated in 2004.
